New Spirit of Africa kicks as 45 People Killed in South Sudan Ethnic Clashes
At least 45 people were killed during ethnic clashes in the volatile nation of South Sudan, our source gathered on tuesday .
According our source, about 18 others were wounded when heavily armed men from the Atok Buk ethnic group attacked several villages of the Apuk Parek ethnic group in Tonj North County in northern Warrap State.
The county’s acting commissioner, Andrew Deng, told dpa, several villages were burned to the ground in the attack, while thousands of residents had fled the area. Local authorities believe the raid was a revenge attack for a similar incident several weeks earlier.
Ethnic clashes have occurred for centuries between ethnic groups in the East African nation. Frequent attacks include cattle raiding and sometimes the abduction of children to be used as domestic slaves.
Earlier in June, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) warned that armed violence causing death, injury and displacement was on the rise in various regions of South Sudan. “Our surgical teams are working overtime, with national and international travel restrictions (due to the Covid-19 pandemic) making it difficult to bring in reinforcements,” the ICRC said in a statement.
In a similar vein, in a release by reputable continental youth organization, The New Spirit of Africa, the body condemn in totality the unwarranted killing and destruction of properties and wonder why Africans keep killing themselves.
According to the group, at a time like this Africa suppose to come together and unit against those who want us dead and underdeveloped. Martins Chiedozie Ugwu who spoke on behalf of the youth organization warned that those behind the gruesome murder of their fellow Africans should have a rethink. Comrade Ugwu who is also the former international president of All African Students for Peace and development advise all the parties to stop playing in the hands of war mongers and profiteers including foreign hands instigating the killings across the continent, noting that The New Spirit of Africa will soon start implementing their program simultaneously across the continent meant to stop things of this nature and advance the interest of the continent.
